Goal:
The object of The Slippery Slope of Drug Abuse is to encourage good decision making by providing important real life lessons about drugs, and teaching good coping skills. The game is meant to be used as an educational tool by adults (such as Teachers, Counselors, Therapists, Administrators, and Parents) to engage students.

Game Board:

The game board is a mountain. The top of the mountain represents high school graduation or successful transition from elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school. The bottom of the mountain represents death or incarceration/detention. Only four players can directly play at one time but all attending students can and should add to the discussion. Play starts at the bottom left of the mountain. Each player picks a card, spins the spinner and moves that number forward or backward. Discussion about the scenario is encouraged at any time. (Example: Why is that a good choice? Why do you think that was a bad choice? What else could you have done?). Two or more players may be on the same step at the same time. The first player to reach the top of the mountain wins the game. Landing on the top of the mountain does not have to be with an exact count. Good decision making makes for a successful transition. There are three sets of fifty cards each: one for elementary, one for middle school and one for high school students. Many of the scenarios are derived from client’s real life experiences. In the game we use brand names of drugs. When prescribed and used appropriately, these drugs are wonderful and help people deal with their pain, anxiety, depression, lack of focus etc. The Slippery Slope of Substance is only referring to the misuse of these drugs.

This Version of The Slippery Slope Of Substance Abuse is especially created with important real life lessons for Middle School.
